We’re replacing a number of the ageing bores at the Taradale and Awatoto borefields with new, modern infrastructure. This will improve water quality and make Napier’s water supply more reliable and resilient for the whole city.

The project meets current national drinking water standards and regulations and involves:

  • Decommissioning some of the outdated bores, at each Taradale and Awatoto borefields
  • Constructing a new water treatment plant at Taradale's Tareha Park
  • Constructing one new bore at Awatoto and three new bores at Taradale.

The project aligns with the Water Services Act 2021, NZ Drinking Water Standards 2022 and Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules 2022.

Together, the upgraded system will provide Napier with a safer, more resilient water supply, capable of meeting current needs and future growth, while ensuring uninterrupted service during the transition.
