We are upgrading the piped water network supplying Napier City and Taradale, to enhance water flow and distribution, resilience and firefighting capacity.

Advanced valving and real-time water quality monitoring will ensure reliable water pressure and a safer, more resilient water supply, and strengthen Napier’s network against earthquakes and other weather-related stresses.

Mataruahou Rising and Falling Mains

New dedicated pipes will deliver water from the Awatoto borefields up to the new Mataruahou Reservoir and then distribute it across the city efficiently. The upgraded infrastructure will ensure reliable water pressure and strengthen the city's network against shocks and other weather events.

Taradale Rising and Falling Mains

New water pipes will connect Taradale's bores to reservoirs along Guppy and Osier Road, enhancing the community's water supply and improving firefighting capability, including upsizing pipes and mordernising fire hydrants.

The new infrastructure will also reduce network risks by isolating major pipework and pave the way for easily installing connections to the Awatoto borefield in the future, if required.

Mataruahou to Taradale Interconnector

A new 1.1km pipe will connect the new Mataruahou Reservoir to the existing water pipe at Prebensen Drive to allow for two-way water transfer and greater resilience in the network.
