The discharge wharf was built in the 1970s and is reaching the end of its 50-year design lifespan. Parts of the structure have become unsafe so will be demolished this year.

A new wharf will be built in its place. The whole project, including demolition, design and build, will take around 24 months, and is expected to be completed late 2026.

For safety reasons, the wharf is closed to all access. Alternative arrangements are in place for those who need them, and the site will remain secure throughout the project.

We are also carrying out essential compliance work, including:

  • Protecting marine life
  • Completing cultural assessments
  • Meeting all environmental and safety requirements.

The project is being delivered in stages to keep things safe, compliant and on track.
